BEACON for English Language and Literacy, an award-winning literacy organization, is recruiting tutors to teach English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL). BEACON primarily serves adult language learners through classroom instruction, but for several reasons there are times that a classroom is not the best fit for a students. The most common reason is a large discrepancy between reading and speaking skills. In those circumstances, BEACON strives to pair students with a tutor who can adjust instruction to that individual's needs.
No language experience or teaching required; must be willing to lesson plan using materials provided to BEACON.
Usually tutoring is scheduled in the morning from 9:30-11:30 and in the evening from 7:00-9:00. Tutoring is scheduled around the tutor and student's schedule, once a week for 12 weeks, ideally starting the week of August 22 and ending before November 11. Mandatory training will be online, Saturday, August 13, from 8:30-12:30 at our offices in Bristow, VA.
Learn more about becoming a trained volunteer teacher and being a part of our team to help empower adults through literacy. Volunteers must submit a volunteer application by August 1 and pass a background check. Email Jmorazuniga@osbva.org to hear more about this exciting and rewarding opportunity.
