Position Overview
We are seeking volunteer legal professionals to support our housing nonprofit in addressing legal questions and challenges that arise in property management, housing law, nonprofit compliance, contracts, and related areas. This role is ideal for attorneys, paralegals, or legal professionals who want to use their expertise to strengthen housing stability for vulnerable families and individuals in our community.
Key Responsibilities
Provide legal advice and guidance to GSHF staff on issues related to landlord-tenant law, housing regulations, and property management.
Assist with contract review, drafting, or negotiation as needed.
Support the organization in ensuring compliance with relevant federal, state, and local housing laws and nonprofit regulations.
Help identify potential legal risks and recommend solutions.
Advise on policies, agreements, or other legal documents that support GSHF’s operations and programs.
(Optional, depending on volunteer preference) Provide pro bono assistance or referrals for residents facing specific housing-related legal issues.
Desired Skills & Qualifications
Licensed attorney in Virginia (active or retired/inactive) or experienced paralegal/legal professional.
Knowledge of landlord-tenant law, fair housing regulations, or nonprofit law preferred.
Strong analytical and communication skills.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.
