Description

This spring, BRMC will be hosting a series of classes for homeschoolers.

The Bull Run Mountains are home to spotted salamanders, eastern red spotted newts, spring peepers, upland chorus frogs, and wood frogs. These unique creatures congregate in spring ephemeral ponds as they carry on their elaborate courtship displays. Join us as we learn how the life stages of these unique organisms are adapted for survival as both adults and juveniles. In addition, we will highlight the natural history traits that make Amphibians good indicators of environmental health. After presenting the roles of amphibians in a global context, students will be led through a discussion on local threats to our native frogs and salamanders.

The first warm rain of the year will wake these amphibians from their winter slumber.  Join BRMC on a hike and witness this intense mating ritual. Scheduled only during historical peaks of ephemeral pond activity.

Pre-registration is required. Cost: $5 per participant including adults.
