Greetings, Prince William! We are excited to celebrate all of our volunteers this weekend at our Community-Wide Volunteer Recognition Event & Picnic. · You can make a difference in the life of a child! CASA CIS needs volunteers age 21+ who care about children growing up in a safe, permanent and loving home. The staff will hold their next Virtual Information Session on May 20, 6pm-7pm. Learn how you can help protect abused and neglected children in your community by becoming a volunteer advocate. · If you love being outside and gardening, we have a great opportunity for you! Prince William Conservation Allianceis looking for volunteers age 18+ to help at their Wildlife Garden in Nokesville. · Prince William Conservation Alliance also has an upcoming community event! Buckland (Not) Preserve: Conservation Residential or Sprawl? will be held on May 21st from 7pm until 9pm. Michael Kieffer, , Bull Run Mountains Conservancy, will walk everyone through their monitoring of Little Bull Run and why they were concerned. Elizabeth Ward, GreenRisks, will help us to understand the significance and why continuing to build out rural lands undermines long-term strategies to protect these water resources. · But wait... There's more! Prince William Conservation Alliance will have a free Zoom event titled Smart Grown Protects Rual Communities on May 28th from 7pm until 9pm. This event will be a virtual conversation exploring how smart growth, walkable communities, and better regional planning can help protect rural landscapes and reduce pressure for sprawl development. This program is part of PWCA's ongoing series highlighting our 3Rs: Reaching Our Potential vision for a more sustainable future in Prince William County. · The Prince William County Department of Parks and Recreation is looking for Ben Lomond Historic Site Junior Preservationists. The volunteer opportunity is available from 8:30 until 4:30 on most days. Junior Preservationist will work with the historic preservation staff and other volunteers and will learn about how historic sites are run, how artifacts are cared for, and possibly tackle a special project suitable to the volunteer's age. · Are you looking for an interesting summer project? We Are Artisticis hosting a virtual internship program called 24 Frames for Change. This program is an internship program dedicated to developing the minds of young talented filmmakers, and spreading messages of positive change in our community. It is a 9 week long program where students will meet for an hour once to twice a week to learn about each step of the process of filmmaking. During this time participants will choose a topic affecting their local community that they are passionate about. Together the participants will create a PSA short film about their topic and how their community can improve. This program will help young students expand their portfolio as well as learn communication skills, filmmaking techniques, and collaboration. Students may earn up to 20 hours of community service. · If you enjoy working outdoors, here's an opportunity the whole family can enjoy! Prince William Trails & Streams Coalitionis holding a family-friendly Trail Workday of the Occoquan Greenway Trail on May 23, 9am-12pm. They'll be working on a short trail reroute and installing a 16-ft wooden bridge over a stream channel. The purpose is to reroute the trail away from a consistently wet area onto higher ground for a better hiking and biking experience. · Prefer to beat the heat and volunteer indoors this summer? BEACON is looking for volunteers age 18+ to be Summer Conversation Class Instructors July 16 through 23. No experience required and BEACON will provide all materials. Some classes meet 9:30am-11:30am while other classes meet 7pm-9pm. · St. Thomas UMC Food Pantry has several volunteer opportunities. The Food Pantry opened its doors on March 17, 2007 and has been in continuous operation since then. They are members of the Capital Area Food Bank and also pick up food 6 days a week from local grocery stores. Volunteer needs such as interpreters, weekday receiving/sorting, food packers, food pickup, and Saturday food distribution are all available. · Rich Fitness and Gains, LLC is looking for volunteers for Fitnik on June 13th, with registration required by May 30, 2026. Fitnik is a nostalgic, fun-filled day of games, challenges, and fitness activities - a field day for adults! · Leopold's Preserve is a 380-acre nature preserve in western Prince William County with more than 7 miles of walking trails and interpretive signage for passive recreation. They also offer guided naturalist walks in partnership with the Bull Run Mountains Conservancy. They currently have volunteer opportunities for Old-Growth Forest Data Collector, Friday Conservation Corps, Saturday Volunteer Days, and their Trail Ambassador Program.
