Greetings, Prince William! Are you yearning for Spring and ready to volunteer in our community once you thaw out? Check out these local volunteer opportunities and events that will warm your heart.
· The staff at Prince William Conservation Alliance has the perfect event to break those Winter Blues! Their Bluebell Festival will take place March 30 at Merrimac Farm Wildlife Management Area in Nokesville and volunteers age 18+ are needed to help with various tasks the day before and day of this fun event! Jobs include help with setup, trail preparation, welcome festival visitors, announce tours and much more! · The Prince William Conservation Alliance in coordination with George Mason University has the 8th Annual Prince William Native Plant Symposium 2026 on February 14th from 9am until 4pm. The event will be held at the Verizon Auditorium on George Mason University's Manassas Campus.Whether you are new to native plants and what they can do for your property or you are looking for alternative landscaping ideas, this event is for you! Native plants can:
- Create a beautiful yard
- Save time so you can enjoy other activities
- Create habitat for birds & pollinators
- Save money on fertilizer & pesticides
- Improve water quality
- Curb Erosion
· Although the snow has ended (for now) Volunteer Prince William is still recruiting Volunteer Snow Shovelers for the future to assist senior citizens and adults with disabilities by clearing sidewalks and driveways after snowstorms. Volunteers age 16+ are welcome while volunteers under 16 can volunteer with a parent. Shoveling typically takes place 1-3 days after a snowstorm and volunteers will be "on call" through March 31. You'll feel great as you help vulnerable residents safely access critical medical appointments, home healthcare, and enter or exit their homes! · House of Mercy has an urgent volunteer need. It's time for one of their most important traditions: the Lenton Cross Program. This program serves as a direct bridge between local churches and our neighbors facing food insecurity. To get the crosses ready, they are hosting a series of Lenten Prep Workshops onsite starting this Monday (Feb. 9). They need a dedicated team to help assemble, knot, and sort all of the 3,500+ tags representing a request for a family in need in our area. · Prince William County Office of Youth Services is seeking dedicated volunteers for the Right Step to Opportunities program - a diversion initiative designed to help youthful offenders avoid the juvenile justice system and build a brighter future.As a Right Step Volunteer, you will:
- Participate in Community Conference hearings with youth and their parent(s)
- Help determine appropriate sanctions and positive opportunities
- Support youth in making better choices
Requirements: 1) Be at least 21 years old 2) Complete training sessions on Right Step and best practices for conducting community conference hearings 3) Commit to at least six hearings per year.
