Greetings, Prince William: You can help control invasive vines at Leopold's Preserve!  They're hosting their next monthly Saturday Volunteer Workday on March 15.  Please stop by at 8:30am for the morning shift, or 1pm for the afternoon shift.  Both shifts will focus on removing invasive vines from their vulnerable native woodlands.  This activity is suitable for volunteers aged 13 and up, so it's family friendly!  Please register in advance at leopoldspreserve.com/calendar, email info@whfarmfoundation.org to learn more.

 

·  Breaking Family-Friendly Volunteer Opportunity! Please join Prince William Conservation Alliance to volunteer for their Bluebell Festival on Sunday, March 30, at Merrimac Farm WMA, 15036-15098 Deepwood Lane, Nokesville. Shifts are available for Set-Up, Parking, Welcoming, Trail Monitoring, Tour Announcers and Clean Up. ·  The spring semester for BEACON for English Language and Literacy will be beginning on March 17th and they are urgently recruiting for online and in-person Volunteer Teachers for Tuesday and/or Thursday evening classes, 7pm-9pm either online, in Manassas, or in Manassas Park.  They're also looking for one in-person Volunteer Teacher for Monday and Wednesday morning to teach classes, 9:30am-11:30am in Manassas.  No teaching or foreign language experience is required, and training is provided. ·  Are your kids in need of service hours for school, church or a club?  Catholic Charities St. Lucy Food Project is hosting a family-friendly Day of Service on Saturday, March 29, 10am-1pm at their food warehouse located at 8426 Kao Circle, Manassas 20110.  You'll feel great as you help fight food insecurity by packing and sorting food donations and preparing bags for food collections!  Close-toed shoes are required; volunteers should be prepared for heavy lifting.  Parents/guardians, please submit a parental consent form for minors. ·  You can show your support of our Vietnam veterans!  Hero's Bridge is holding their Vietnam Veterans Day 5K March 29 at Warrenton-Fauquier Airport, 1533 Iris Trail, Midland 22728 and they need 4-6 volunteers age 16+ from 9am to 12pm to support the event.  Duties include direct parking traffic, cheering on runners, handing out water, handing out medals at the finish line and any other help needed.  Volunteers age 13-15 are welcome to volunteer with an adult.  This is being held on Vietnam War Veterans Day, so you'll get to support the event and thank these veterans for their service!  Please visit https://bit.ly/3Xho4ll and click the Respond button to sign up, email mwitmer@herosbridge.org to learn more.

·  Do you love going out in nature?  The fabulous staff at Leopold's Preserve is launching a new independent volunteer opportunity, the Leopold's Preserve Trail Ambassador Volunteer Program!  This opportunity is open to volunteers age 18+ and offers a flexible schedule, making it an ideal volunteer opportunity for those with busy lifestyles.  Volunteers will help staff with the 7+ mile trail system, giving timely notice of maintenance issues and ensuring trail conditions are excellent.  Required training will be held March 16, 8:30am, once completed you can begin volunteering independently!  It's a win-win all around - you get outdoors, get in some good exercise and help the staff keep the trails safe for the public to enjoy!  Please visit www.leopoldspreserve.com/trail-ambassador to register and learn more.  Please email info@whfarmfoundation.org or call 571.358.2098 with any questions.

·  If you're a teen who loves history, here's something for you!  The Prince William County Office of Historic Preservation has openings for teen volunteers to be Junior Preservationists and support activities at Brentsville Courthouse Historic Centre, Ben Lomond Historic Site, Bristoe Station Battlefield Heritage Park and Rippon Lodge!  Volunteers will work with historians and historic interpreters doing many of the same jobs performed by adult volunteers with consideration for age.  Jobs include assist staff with special events, summer camps, education programs, and the daily operations of many historic sites throughout Prince William County.  Flexible days and hours - work weekly, monthly, special events, or during the summer.  Site managers will be as accommodating as possible to meet needs for school or organization service hours.  What a wonderful way to learn our local history!  Please visit www.volunteerprincewilliam.org and click on the appropriate volunteer opportunity for the site you want to support.  PS - Adult volunteers are also welcome!

·  Mark your calendars for Prince William Trails and Streams Coalition's Marumsco Creek/Veteran's Park Cleanup on March 22, 9am-12pm at Veteran's Park, 14300 Veteran's Drive, Woodbridge 22191!  Volunteers will be removing trash that has made its way into the Creek and wetland, in an undeveloped area of Veteran's Park.  Trash bags, gloves and litter grabbers will be provided.  You'll feel great as you get out in the fresh air and help beautify our community!  Please visit https://bit.ly/4kuSavS for more information and to sign up.  Please email secretary@pwtsc.org for more information.

·  Your office, group or club can provide the comfort of a hot meal during the winter months!  Streetlight Community Outreach Ministries' hypothermia shelter located at 14716 Potomac Mills Road in Woodbridge has an ongoing need for groups to prepare and drop off meals for 30 adult residents through March 31.  Meals are needed each night and should be prepared off-site and dropped off at the shelter between 6:30pm-7pm.  There are still several openings in March, and you'll feel great as you provide a hot, nourishing meal for the homeless to enjoy!  Please visit https://bit.ly/3XXR5SR to sign up and get more information, email thermalshelter@thestreetlight.org or call 571.677.2883 to learn more.
