Greetings, Prince William:  Breaking Volunteer Opportunity! Virginia Women and Family Support Center is excited to announce the Grand Opening of their StrongHer Generations Thrift Store on March 1, 10am-1pm and they need volunteers to help with various tasks on that date.  Volunteers are also needed February 24-28 between 10am and 3pm to sort and tag clothing.  Volunteers age 13-15 are welcome to volunteer with an adult.  The store's address is 14019A Glenkirk Road, Gainesville 20155.  Volunteers will feel good as they support this new store which helps fund housing, resources, and stability for women and children in need.  Credit for service hours will be available!  Volunteers will also be needed to support the thrift store during their normal operating hours.  Please email volunteercoordinator@vawfsc.org to sign up for March 1, visit https://www.stronghergeneration.com/volunteer to learn more.  PS - Donations are also being accepted, please visit https://www.stronghergeneration.com/donate for more information.

 

·  Spring Cleanup season is kicking off with the Neabsco Creek & Boardwalk Cleanup happening on March 1, 9am-12pm!  Two locations will be worked on: 1) Neabsco Regional Park, 15125 Blackburn Road, Woodbridge 22191 and 2) Neabsco Eagles Park, 15801 Neabsco Road, Woodbridge 22191.  You'll feel great as you participate in the first of several cleanups of local waterways which will beautify our local community!  Please visit https://bit.ly/41kotWO for more information and to register, email secretary@pwtsc.org to learn more.

·  Are you fluent in American Sign Language (ASL)?  The staff at Prince William Living needs your help with their Influential Women Awards being held March 5.  One of the nominees is deaf, so they're in search of a volunteer fluent in ASL to translate on behalf of this individual.  The event will take place March 5, 5:30pm-7pm at Sweeney Barn, 9310 Discovery Boulevard, Manassas 20109.  The volunteer will receive a free ticket, which includes a light dinner.  Your ASL skills will do a lot to help this nominee be recognized for her work and to participate in the event!  Please email Diane at dpuigdomenech@princewilliamliving.com for more information.

·  The spring semester (March 7-June 25) for BEACON for English Language and Literacy is fast approaching!  They're recruiting for morning and evening Volunteer Teachers and Substitutes, both online and in-person.  One-day-a-week and two-day-a-week options are available at various class levels.  Evening classes meet 7pm-9pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays in Manassas, Manassas Park, or on Zoom.  Morning classes meet 9:30am-11:30am on Mondays and Wednesdays in Manassas or on Zoom.  No teaching or foreign language experience is required, and training is provided.  To learn more, please sign up for a virtual information session at https://bit.ly/43zEFTv or contact Seth at 571.428.2524.

·   If you enjoy going fishing, here's something for you!  Brain Injury Services (BIS) needs a volunteer to be a PALS (Providing a Link for Survivors) for a brain injury survivor who lives in Prince William County; this individual enjoys going fishing.  Once a month outings for other things such as coffee, walks, chess, lunch, etc. can help this client get their life back on track following a traumatic brain injury!  Please visit www.braininjurysvcs.org/volunteer/ for more information, email mthyen@braininjurysvcs.org or call 703.451.8881 ext. 232 to learn how you can help this individual.

·   Save the Date!  The Bull Run Watershed Protectors invite you to the Bull Run Watershed Spring Cleanup 2025 being held March 8, 9am-11am.  Volunteers will help clean up the stream valley behind Costco, across Lomond to Ashton Avenue and the shops/restaurants adjacent down to Walgreens at Sudley Manor Drive.  Families, students, scouts, teams, and other groups are welcome.  Earn Volunteer Hours!  Volunteers will meet at the Walgreens parking lot, 10671 Sudley Manor Drive, Manassas 20109.  Gloves, safety vests, trash bags and grabbers will be loaned to participants for the cleanup.  You'll feel great being part of a movement that has removed over 14,000 pounds of trash since 2018!  Please visit their Sign-Up Genius page at https://bit.ly/3EuMdi0 to register.  Rain Date:  March 15.

·   You can make a difference in the life of a child! CASA CIS needs volunteers age 21+ who care about children growing up in a safe, permanent and loving home.  The staff will hold their next Virtual Information Session on February 26, 6pm-7pm.  Learn how you can help protect abused and neglected children in your community by becoming a volunteer advocate.  Please email jpolen@casacis.org or call 703.330.8145 to receive the link to the meeting or to inquire about alternate dates.

·  Are your kids in need of service hours for school, church or a club?  Catholic Charities St. Lucy Food Project is hosting a family-friendly Day of Service on Saturday, March 29, 10am-1pm at their food warehouse located at 8426 Kao Circle, Manassas 20110.  You'll feel great as you help fight food insecurity by packing and sorting food donations and preparing bags for food collections!  Close-toed shoes are required; volunteers should be prepared for heavy lifting.  Parents/guardians, please submit a parental consent form for minors. ·  The dedicated staff at Willing Warriors in Haymarket is always on the lookout for volunteers either in groups or individually who can support their mission to "Provide cost-free retreat stays and programs that positively impact wounded, ill, and injured service members, disabled Veterans, and their families."  Opportunities such as admin support, event assistance, beautification days, fundraising and much more are available to support veterans and their families during their stays at the Warrior Retreat at Bull Run.  It's a wonderful way to support our veterans and their families as they get a much-needed break from all the medical appointments, hospital stays, and other issues associated with recovery!  Please email volunteer@willingwarriors.org for more information.

·  Your office, group or club can provide the comfort of a hot meal during the winter months!  Streetlight Community Outreach Ministries' hypothermia shelter located at 14716 Potomac Mills Road in Woodbridge has an ongoing need for groups to prepare and drop off meals for 30 adult residents through March 31.  Meals are needed each night and should be prepared off-site and dropped off at the shelter between 6:30pm-7pm.  There are many openings in March, and you'll feel great as you provide a hot, nourishing meal for the homeless to enjoy!  Please visit https://bit.ly/3XXR5SR to sign up and get more information, email thermalshelter@thestreetlight.org or call 571.677.2883 to learn more.
