Volunteer: Nationals YBA After School Tutor

Come as you can to help 1:1 tutor kids or work on homework Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday anytime between 3:30 and 5:30pm. Kids grades 3-8 work on homework, online math games, or Academy assignments in STEM or literacy. Also try partner reading to work with a child on their vocabulary or learning how to read.

Volunteer opportunities exist for mentors/coaches interested in gaining hands-on experience in youth development and baseball instruction! 

-Help implement tailored baseball instruction to young Scholar-Athletes (ages 6-12) 
-Help Scholar-Athletes develop baseball skills learned on the diamond into life lessons that can help them succeed in the classroom and their community 
-Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday
-3:30-5:30 pm or 7:30-8:30 pm 

The culture of the Washington Nationals Youth Baseball Academy Instructional League is grounded in the positive values of sports - instilling a love of physical activity as well as the qualities of determination, resiliency, teamwork and goal setting in the young scholar-athletes we serve. We do this through committed volunteer mentor/coaches - trained in positive coaching methodology.

September 24 - May 21

Mentors are at the heart and soul of what we do at the Academy. Mentors come once a week to work with Scholar-Athletes in various games and activities designed to help Scholar-Athletes learn and grow into determined students, supportive teammates and catalysts for positive change in our community. Our mentors work to cultivate a positive relationship with mentees that have a lasting impact for years to come.

- 1 hour per week from 6-7 pm

- Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday during the school year

- Work on provided activities to teach mentee about life, goal setting, team-work, and more

- Training for mentors in working with children and positive development

The Washington Nationals Youth Baseball Academy looks to nurture the development of D.C. youth into thriving members and leaders of our community. The mission of the Academy is to use the sports of baseball and softball as vehicles to foster positive character development, academic achievement and improved health among youth from underserved communities in Washington, D.C. Scholar-Athletes participate in a year-round program that includes STEM and literacy, baseball and softball programs, and food education.
