During their walk they will pick up litter and look for maintenance issues, such as damaged trees and hanging branches, standing water, trail washouts, etc. Trail monitors will take pictures of identified issues and report their findings to the Maintenance and Operations Division.

Donations are picked up between 8am-10am Monday-Saturday and brought back to the food pantry. The primary duties for this opportunity are weekly pickups of food at the grocery store receiving area, transport it to the food pantry in your vehicle (a larger vehicle or minivan is recommended), and help unload it with the food pantry volunteers. It takes approximately 1-2 hours or less, depending on where the grocery store is and traffic, etc. You must have the ability to lift approximately 40lbs.

Martin K. Alloy's Volleyball Program is a developmental league with beginner, intermediate and advance levels.  In this position, you will work with our youth/teens to help develop and improve their skills and performance

Volleyball ages are as follows:  3rd-5th grade (co-ed) / 6th-12th grade (girls only).

Practices will be held during the week (approximately 2 hours) on a Tuesday, Thursday or Friday.  They are held between the hours of 6 pm-8 pm.  Games are played on Saturday (1.5 hours) and will be held at the Manassas or Woodbridge location.  They are held between the hours of 8 am-1pm.

Independence Empowerment Center (IEC) is a Center for Independent Living as defined by the U.S. Department of Education. IEC provides services enabling adults and children with disabilities to improve the quality of their lives, determine their own lifestyle, participate in all aspects of society, and secure their human and civil rights. IEC also provides a means for consumer control and policy direction of the service delivery systems affecting people with disabilities.

Governance:  IEC is organized as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization governed by its members and a member-elected Board of Directors. Individuals on the Board serve three-year terms and (by directive) at least one-half of the Board must be comprised of people with disabilities. The Board elects officers including President, Vice-President, Secretary and Treasurer. Formal Board activity includes an annual membership meeting, regular Board meetings and Committee work (Executive, Personnel and Finance). At the discretion of the Board President on an as needed basis, special meetings are called, or ad hoc committees formed. The Board currently meets on a bi-monthly basis on the fourth Tuesday of the month at 4:00 PM in person at IEC’s offices in Manassas or virtually. Directors and officers serve without compensation. 

Roles and Responsibilities:  The Board is the oversight body that is legally responsible for IEC’s operation. The Board has a fiduciary responsibility to provide accountability and transparency to the community by ensuring that the center is operating legally and effectively within its corporate framework. 

The Board develops policy, establishes long-range plans, attracts resources, advises the Executive Director on procedures to maintain a safe and productive work environment, and ensures financial stability. Specific responsibilities include tax filings, audits, annual reports, and insurance decisions. 

The Board hires, supervises and evaluates an Executive Director. Though the Board has oversight responsibility for IEC, it is not normally involved in its day-to-day activities. The Board communicates with staff through the Executive Director. 

In addition to the Board’s legal and fiduciary role, Board members share in other responsibilities including IEC’s growth and development. Each Board member contributes her/his unique perspectives and skill sets to direct and operate IEC effectively and efficiently, advocates for its constituents and their rights, increases IEC’s visibility in the communities it serves and maintains and develops funding sources.

Requirements and Qualifications:  IEC relies on its Board members for clear direction and long-term success and sustainability. In part success requires placing people with a keen interest in serving the greater good in key board positions who can assist in setting goals and performance objectives; develop, implement, and execute a strategic plan and aids the Executive Director in guiding the overall management and administration of the organization. 

Board members should possess certain attributes that align with IEC’s mission and purpose, to include:

A sincere interest in the ability of individuals with disabilities to lead independent lifestyles. A firm conviction that IEC performs a useful public service. A strong belief in the importance of IEC’s role in the community. An expertise in areas of greatest need to IEC and/or connections to such resources in the community (e.g., development/fundraising, finance, management, legal, personnel, marketing/public relations, technology, disability issues). Ability and willingness to advocate on behalf of and represent a current or potential service population. 

Board members are expected to be active participants in Board activities:

Regularly attend and participate in Board and Committee meetings. Motivate oneself and others to achieve IEC goals and objectives which requires a willingness to volunteer for specific calls to action as needed. Listen with an open mind, engage in critical thinking and creative problem solving, and guide group decision making for the benefit of the whole. Maintain awareness of changing needs in the community. Support and participate in fundraising activities. Endeavor to help the Board and IEC accomplish their work thoroughly, effectively, and efficiently. 

It is expected that Board members will:

Coaches will work up to five hours each month providing program participants with support as they learn to measure their blood pressure at home, transmit twice daily blood pressure measurement readings electronically, lead a monthly, virtual group check-in and discussion, and encourage participants to reach their individual goals.

The overall program combines online learning with monthly group physical activities such as yoga, tai-chi, pilates, walks, and meditation. The program explores diet and nutrition options like plant-based and dairy-free eating, and one on one and small group support.

This position is ideal for nursing or other students, or current or retired clinicians, clinical staff or public health workers, who need or want experience working on a community-based intervention and someone looking to gain experience working for a nonprofit organization. The successful candidate will work approximately five hours per month and work directly with IAWH staff.

Communicate with mentee weekly by telephone, video platform or email to keep in touch about what is going on in their lives. Commit to meeting with youth once a month for 12 months. Learn about the mentee’s culture, values and experience; cultivate awareness of cultural competence and humility. Help youth explore new cultural environment while maintaining and celebrating the youth’s own cultural heritage. Support youth in improving English language ability and other skills as they choose. Assist youth with career development including skill building, resume drafting and applications. Serve as a positive role model, establish appropriate boundaries, be encouraging and supportive of the mentee. Support the mentee in career exploration, career planning, guidance and job training services, as well as development of social emotional skills. Participate in quarterly mentor trainings and workshops with other mentee/mentor pairs Communicate in a professional, timely, patient and kind manner with the youth, their family and Program Coordinator. Pink Space Theory is looking for a licensed teacher to serve as the Program Director to oversee STEM programs, workshops, and classes.

The STEM Program Manager is responsible for developing, coordinating, and teaching STEM afterschool programming for students in K-12th grade. All you have to do is rally everyone you know to clean out their closets and donate their used shoes. You will pick them up from them or have places for them to drop-off. We have branded S4S boxes you are welcome to use and place (with the place’s permission) at your office, church, library, school, local business, grocery store, etc. When you finish collecting, you will bring them to the Soles4Souls Regional Donation Center in Richmond, VA. At this point you have completed your drive.   About Our Mission:   Soles4Souls creates sustainable jobs and provides relief through the distribution of shoes and clothing around the world. It’s estimated that 21 billion pounds of textile waste is dumped in landfills every year. That makes up more than 5% of all municipal waste generated every year. Since 2006, Soles4Souls has diverted 23.8 million pounds of shoes and clothes from landfills and instead created meaningful economic opportunities and helped provide new shoes for those in need around the globe. Gently-worn shoes collected help individuals start and sustain small businesses to lift themselves and their families out of poverty.

Here are the steps for conducting a shoe drive:

Register to host a shoe drive for a specific period of time and with a goal in mind. I would bring/send you a collection box or you can come pick it up. You line this with a hefty duty garbage bag and replace as it gets full. Try to find people-facing locations to host boxes for you if you prefer. I can help you with this! Communicate your drive! This a link to different logos, images, etc that you can use. If you haven’t already, check out our YouTube channel for inspiration! There are also flyers attached. Optional: we can issue a press release and/or geo-targeted social media posts about your shoe drive. Take lots of pictures and share with me so I can feature your group’s efforts! Also, follow our local Facebook page here. Once the drive concludes, make sure all the pairs are rubber-banded together or laces are tied and the total amount is counted. You can drop them off one of our warehouses or bins in garbage bags! You will coordinate your drop-off time with me. Volunteer: Tourism Ambassador

 

The Prince William County Office of Tourism is currently recruiting Tourism Ambassadors to assist with the customer service function of the satellite tourism office. If you love being part of a fun team that is passionate about travel and about providing excellent customer service over and above what is expected - this is the opportunity you have been waiting for!

This position is currently based in the satellite Field Office in Occoquan, Virginia.

We are seeking locals who are extroverted and customer oriented candidates. Background working in retail, hotels, tourism, customer service centers and other hospitality fields is a PLUS.

Prince William County Office of Tourism is seeking Tourism Ambassadors for the 2018 class.
This is a great way to get out in Prince William, gain hands-on experience in the hospitality and tourism industry, make new connections and network, and make a positive impression on incoming visitors & locals to our incredible destination.


Ambassador Description:
As a Tourism Ambassador, you may assist in the following activities:

Meet & Greet Guests at the Visitor Center in Occoquan, Virginia or at various tourism destinations throughout the county. Act as a concierge at tourism friendly events such as concerts, festivals, sporting events, and parades.

Meet new people. Taste, touch, and experience Prince William County with behind the scenes tours on our monthly FAMiliarization Trips. This year we've already visited the: National Museum of the Marine Corps, Weems-Botts Museum, Rippon Lodge, Williams Ordinary, Leesylvania State Park, Julie J. Metz Neabsco Creek Wetlands Preserve and the Quantico National Cemetery. Invitations to and incentives at Tourism & Hospitality Partner events such as Jiffy Lube Live, 2 Silos, Prince William County Fair, Occoquan Craft Shows, Dale City Farmer's Market, Splashdown Waterpark, and other attractions. Invitations to join tourism committees.


Qualifications:
Be able to work flexible hours and schedules based on availability and need. Familiarity with surrounding area, a plus. No experience is required, and you will be thoroughly trained for your assigned duties. Most volunteers will be working with at least one other person. Applicants may undergo a reference check and screening. All ambassadors must be at least 18 years of age and have a valid Virginia Driver’s license.

Schedule: Minimum one day per week (4 hours per week), including some weekends and holidays.

This volunteer position is primarily in the Prince William County Tourist Information Center at Historic Occoquan. The Visitor Center is open 9a-5p; seven days a week, closed on Christmas, Thanksgiving, New Year’s Day. These volunteers serve a vital function with Parterns for Telehealth Solutions by picking up donations of cell phones and goods from donors and bringing the items back to The Linen Closet.  VOWS provide cell phone pick-up containers in various locations and switch out the containers when they are full.  VOWs also deliver goods to Veterans who request goods through The Linen Closet.  All donations are local and we try to maximize your time by having you make pick-ups in close geographical areas.

Schedules are flexible and we can accommodate your schedule. Got a car and a valid driver's license? Then become a VOW!
