Count the Region Ambassador

Volunteer Training

The purpose of the “Count the Region” initiative at the Community Foundation for Northern Virginia is to help get out the count for the 2020 Census in Northern Virginia, making sure everyone living in Northern Virginia is counted, counted once, and counted in the right place.

We are on the ground in Northern Virginia helping and advising decennial census efforts. We attend community, school, government, and faith-based events to educate residents on the importance of census participation. 

Location: Various organizations and scheduled events throughout the region.

Key Responsibilities: The Count the Region Ambassador shares and disseminates 2020 Census information to the public to identified organizations and community events/meetings via organized presentations or distributing literature. May require set-up and breakdown of the 2020 Census displays, presenting a PowerPoint presentation, set-up of tables, chairs and marketing materials. Material pick up to prepare for outreach event. Other duties as assigned.

Responsible to: The Northern Virginia Complete Count Committee and Jenee Padmore (Director, Count the Region at The Community Foundation for Northern Virginia).

Length of Appointment: The Count the Region Ambassador position is open from November 2019 through May 1, 2020.

Time Commitment: Varies based on the number of community events and meeting scheduled.

Qualifications: Attend training on the Count the Region and the 2020 Decennial Census. Basic knowledge of a computer and PowerPoint. Pleasant manner, patience, problem-solving ability, dependability, comfortable interacting with community members, confident public speaker, ability to work independently.

Other: Dress code is casual; valid Drivers’ license is preferred and/or public transportation options to meetings or events.
