The Weems-Botts museum is looking for Historic House Tour Guide volunteers for our open season, 05/01/2023 - 10/31/2023! You will have the opportunity to lead tours, participate in special programs and events, and outreach opportunities. Did you know Dumfries was a port town? Historic Dumfries Virginia, Inc. is seeking an experienced volunteer to help guide our organization as we prepare to submit grants! In order to fulfill our mission to preserve the historic heritage of Dumfries, we are applying for a grant to make The Lee Lansing Research Library more accessible. We are also applying for a grant to help promote the upcoming 250 commemoration of local history and Revolutionary War history! 

Your help would directly impact our organization as your advice will help the Executive Director prepare to submit two very impactful grants for our small community! 

Calling all those who like to clean! Historic Dumfries Virginia is seeking someone to help clean The Weems-Botts Museum! This unique cleaning opportunity gives participants a chance to work within the historic house as they carefully vaccuum, clean, and help maintain a safe and dust-free setting for our beautiful community collections! The Executive Director will work with interested participants and will receive training along with all needed materials. Does preserving local history in a tangible & very visible way sound rewarding? Join our team of volunteers as we help maintain historic structures and artifacts ranging from the 1700s - 1900s!

Merchant Park & the surrounding structures abound with zealous holly and other lively plants! After hiring landscapers for a Spring clean-up, we are looking for people to help maintain the appearance! Fight weeds, battle fierce holly, help us develop & maintain our native pollinator plants, and enjoy the beauty of a 2 acre Park in the Town of Dumfries. We appreciate any gardening or landscaping skills you can bring to our property, whether it is to maintain the flowers in front of the Annex building or work in our colonial and butterfly garden. We would greatly appreciate any and all help that you can offer.

Do you enjoy working with children? Historic Dumfries Virginia is calling all those interested to serve as Museum Educators for the Weems-Botts Museum! The Weems-Botts Museum offers a variety of educational programming for different ages usually with an emphasis on Colonial or Victorian life. Would you like to help children make candles or butter? Play colonial games in Merchant Park? Help develop new programs throughout the year? Join our nonprofit organization to help children learn and have fun at a historical site.
