Tree Giveaway!

Saturday, April 3, 9:30 am - 11:30am

Several hundred Eastern Redbuds (Cercis canadensis) and Flowering Dogwood (Cornus florida) are looking for new homes to add a little beauty and so much more to your yard.

Would you like two free seedlings for your yard? We're hosting a drive-thru event to pick up 2 seedlings - one Redbud and one Dogwood per ticket holder. Sign up below and remember to bring your ticket either on your phone or as a printout. Seedlings are limited to the first 200 people that sign up.

We'll be set up outside at Todos Supermarket rain or shine from 9:30 - 11:30 pm on Saturday, April 3rd. Details regarding the pick-up will be included in a follow-up email to ticket holders. Each person with a ticket will take home 2 seedlings - 1 Redbud & 1 Dogwood!

Both the Eastern Redbud and the Flowering Dogwood are important native understory trees that are pretty to look at and great for wildlife. Both are small in stature - typically reaching 30 ft - and the flowers, fruits, and leaves of these trees provide year-round interest for you and good habitat and nutrition for our animal friends.

Redbud: Dense pale pink to almost magenta flowers emerge from March to April as early spring nectar sources for our hummingbirds and other pollinators. Heart-shaped deep green leaves unfold for the summer and as the leaves turn in autumn, bean-like seedpods mature in October providing food for birds.

Dogwood: Trees are most noticeable in April - May when their pretty white bracts light up the understory of wooded areas and forest edges. In the fall, the bright red berry-like drupes ripen and are a preferred food source for more than 75 species of birds. Their oval leaves change from a bronze-green as they unfold to dark green in summer to a reddish-purple in the fall.

This is a drive-thru pickup event. As you drive up, please remain in your vehicle, and we will hand you your seedlings.
NOTE: We will be taking safety precautions including wearing masks and maintaining social distancing.
