The United Way of the National Capital Area invites your participation to become a 2014 Community Impact Fund Volunteer Grant Reviewer. United Way seeks to identify a diverse volunteer group of grant reviewers to make objective and independent recommendations about funding priorities, based on community impact areas designated by the United Way of the National Capital Area and guided by the unique needs of residents in the national capital region. The Community Impact Grant program ensures that dollars raised annually through the United Way campaign are reinvested in our communities to help those with the greatest need.
We are seeking Volunteers to review grant applications. The time commitment is approx. 15-20 hours from October to late November. Grant readers have the flexibility to review proposals when convenient for them. However, there will be a mandatory review meeting scheduled in November where all proposal scores will be reviewed, reconciled and recommendation for funding determined by Regional Councils and UWNCA staff.
While it is a tremendous benefit to have Volunteers with prior experience reviewing or administering grants, this is not required. However, we desire individuals with a background related to health, education, workforce, financial literacy, health and human services; and have been involved in activities that serve the community within the past 5 years.
Community Impact Grant Reviewers are required to:
- Reside or work in the region that you are volunteering in,
- commit to approx.. 15-20 hours to review assigned proposals during October and November 2013,
- review no more than eight (8) applications,
- maintain confidentiality,
- be able to analyze applications (i.e., finances and budgets, performance outcome measurements and evaluations, strengths/weaknesses),
- ensure recommendations are objective, fair, and impartial,
- participate in a training webinar and in-person review meeting(s),
- work as a team to make recommendations on grant selections and funding, and
- adhere to UWNCA Conflict of Interest Policy and Procedures,
Grant Reviewer Applications should be submitted via email: grants@uwnca.org or via fax at 202.448.1987 to the attention of Community Impact Grants.
United Way NCA must ensure that there is a rigorous and transparent review process. Thank you for your interest in supporting our work by volunteering your time and talent and assisting us in selecting community partners to improve the lives of citizens across the region.
* All reviewers must work or reside in Alexandria, Arlington, the District of Columbia, Fairfax/Falls Church, Loudoun County, Montgomery County, Prince George’s County or Prince William County to participate in United Way of the National Capital Area’s local grant review process.
