Call to Action - September 5, 2023-Fall Events

Greetings, Prince William - This coming weekend is super busy with not one, but Two Community Walks in need of volunteers:

1) Cystic Fibrosis Foundation is hosting the Manassas Great Strides Walk Saturday, September 9 at Harris Pavilion; volunteers are needed 8am-2pm.  Duties include Set-Up, Registration, T-Shirts, Clean-Up, and more.  Volunteers 18+ welcome, volunteers under 18 must volunteer with a parent.  You'll feel great as you support this walk which brings awareness of Cystic Fibrosis, a devastating disease which has robbed people of tomorrows, progressively limiting their ability to breathe and tragically shortening life.  Please visit https://on.cff.org/44w25ZO for more information, email scardenas@cff.org to learn more.

2) American Foundation for Suicide Prevention is holding their annual Out of the Darkness Walk Sunday, September 10 at Harris Pavilion.  Volunteers are needed beginning at 7:15am for such jobs as Set Up, Signage Set Up, Walk Buddy, Cheer Teams for the walkers and much more!  All ages welcome; volunteers under 18 need to bring a signed waiver form found on the sign-up page.  You'll feel great knowing you're supporting an event which calls awareness to and brings hope to those affected by suicide!  Please visit https://bit.ly/3L1FInc to sign up, email kmahoney@afsp.org for more information.

  • The wonderful staff at Leopold's Preserve is holding a 9/11 Day of Service on Sunday, September 10, 1pm-4pm at their facility, 16290 Thoroughfare Road, Broad Run The day's projects include staining fences around their parking area, along with other conservation projects.  You'll get dirty from the wood stain, so "dress for a mess" is recommended.  All ages welcome, and you'll feel good as you participate in this project, part of the 9/11 National Day of Service and Remembrance, honoring those who died on September 11, 2001.  Please visit www.leopoldspreserve.com/events-1/september-11-national-day-of-service and click on the Registration button to sign up.
  • A wonderful event for a fantastic cause! The fun staff at House of Mercy is holding their Annual Food Truck Festival September 30 in their parking lot, 8170 Flannery Court, Manassas 20109.  Fun-loving volunteers age 13+ are needed beginning at 7am for jobs such as Set Up, Parking, Raffle Tickets, Photo Booth, Dunk Tank and more!  Volunteers age 13-15 must volunteer with a parent, volunteers age 16+ can volunteer independently.  Credit for service hours available!  It sounds like a busy day of good food, fun activities and volunteering with good friends to support House of Mercy's programs!  Please visit https://bit.ly/3Rb7G3S to sign up, email kjohnson@houseofmercyva.org for more information.
  • Can you believe it? Historic Manassas, Inc.'s Fall Jubilee is almost here, and volunteers are needed to support this fun, outdoor event happening on October 7 in Old Town Manassas!  Volunteers can help set up, monitor the music stages, and take photos/videos.  A few volunteers are also needed to act as Floaters, helping wherever needed.  Shifts are set up, some beginning as early as 6am, but everything's done by 6pm.  This is one of the most popular events held in Old Town, and you'll have a great time supporting the performers, enjoying music and tasting all sorts of delicious food!  Please email kim@historicmanassasinc.org for more information.
  • Do you enjoy agriculture? Prince William Soil and Water Conservation District is hosting Farm Field Days October 11 and 12, 8am-1pm at the Prince William County Fairgrounds, 10624 Dumfries Road, Manassas 20112.  Volunteers are needed to support this event which educates 4th graders about agriculture and farm life.  Duties include helping set up, check in volunteers, monitor various agricultural stations, set up/monitor the concession stand and guide student groups from one station to the next.  No farm experience is needed, and all ages are welcome!  Lunch will be provided to volunteers once the event ends.  It sounds like a lot of fun as you help educate students about farm living!  Please visit https://bit.ly/3smBobx to register.  Questions?  Please email education@pwswcd.org or call 571.379.7514 to learn more.
  • Cleanup season is here, and the awesome folks at Friends of the Occoquan are holding their annual Fall River Cleanup October 14, 9am-12pm at various sites in Prince William and Fairfax County. It's family friendly and you'll feel great as you help make these places beautiful again for all to enjoy!  Preregistration is recommended, please visit friendsoftheoccoquan.org to view the list of sites.  Please email foto@friendsoftheoccoquan.org with volunteer names, selected site and check-in time.
  • Enjoy a fun event and support a great cause! Keep Prince William Beautiful is holding a Fall Festival Fundraiser October 14, 11am-4pm at Cedar Run Brewery, 12801 Hazelwood Drive, Nokesville 20181.  Volunteers are needed to help set up, break down, operate booths/games and maintain trash cans and grounds.  Two shifts are available, 10am-1:30pm and 1:30pm-5pm.  Volunteers age 16+ are welcome, volunteers age 12-15 must volunteer with a parent.  Credit for service hours will be available!  You'll feel great as you support this outdoor event which will help this wonderful agency purchase a much-needed company vehicle!  Please email abrown@kpwb.org to sign up and learn more.
