Greetings, Prince William - We're getting so many requests for volunteer support for upcoming Fall events that we'll be doing a Tuesday column for the foreseeable future. The Friday column will continue to be published. If you're looking for a volunteer opportunity, be sure to check for this column every Tuesday - lots of activities are on the schedule! - Save the Date! Cystic Fibrosis Foundation will be hosting the Manassas Great Strides Walk September 9 at Harris Pavilion, and volunteers are needed 8am-2pm. Duties include set-up, registration, handing out t-shirts, clean-up, and much more. Volunteers 18+ welcome, volunteers under 18 can help but must volunteer with a parent/guardian. You'll feel great as you support this event which brings awareness of cystic fibrosis, a devastating disease which has robbed people of tomorrows, progressively limiting their ability to breathe and tragically shortening life. - And the next day… American Foundation for Suicide Prevention is holding their annual Out of the Darkness Walk Sunday, September 10 at Harris Pavilion. Volunteers are needed beginning at 7:15am for such jobs as Set Up, Signage Set Up on the walk route, Walk Buddy, Cheer Teams for the walkers and much more! All ages welcome; volunteers under 18 need to bring a signed waiver form found on the sign-up page. You'll feel great knowing you're supporting an event which calls awareness to and brings hope to those affected by suicide! - The wonderful staff at Leopold's Preserve is holding a 9/11 Day of Service on Sunday, September 10, 1pm-4pm at their facility, 16290 Thoroughfare Road, Broad Run The day's projects include staining fences around their parking area, along with other conservation projects. You'll get dirty from the wood stain, so "dress for a mess" is recommended. All ages welcome, and you'll feel good as you participate in this project, part of the 9/11 National Day of Service and Remembrance, honoring those who died on September 11, 2001. - Can you believe it? Historic Manassas, Inc.'s Fall Jubilee is almost here, and volunteers are needed to support this fun, outdoor event happening on October 7 in Old Town Manassas! Volunteers can help set up, monitor the music stages, and take photos/videos. A few volunteers are also needed to act as Floaters, helping wherever needed. Shifts are set up, some beginning as early as 6am, but everything's done by 6pm. This is one of the most popular events held in Old Town, and you'll have a great time supporting the performers, enjoying music and tasting all sorts of delicious food! - Do you enjoy agriculture? Prince William Soil and Water Conservation District is hosting Farm Field Days October 11 and 12, 8am-1pm at the Prince William County Fairgrounds, 10624 Dumfries Road, Manassas 20112. Volunteers are needed to support this event which educates 4th graders about agriculture and farm life. Duties include helping set up, check in volunteers, monitor various agricultural stations, set up/monitor the concession stand and guide student groups from one station to the next. No farm experience is needed, and all ages are welcome! Lunch will be provided to volunteers once the event ends. It sounds like a lot of fun as you help educate students about farm living! - Cleanup season is here, and we've got a great event for you! The awesome folks at Friends of the Occoquan are holding their annual Fall River Cleanup October 14, 9am-12pm at various sites in Prince William and Fairfax County. It's family friendly and you'll feel great as you help make these places beautiful again for all to enjoy! - Enjoy a fun event and support a great cause! Keep Prince William Beautiful is holding a Fall Festival Fundraiser October 14, 11am-4pm at Cedar Run Brewery, 12801 Hazelwood Drive, Nokesville 20181. Volunteers are needed to help set up, break down, operate booths/games and maintain trash cans and grounds. Two shifts are available, 10am-1:30pm and 1:30pm-5pm. Volunteers age 16+ are welcome, volunteers age 12-15 must volunteer with a parent. Credit for service hours will be available!
