Call to Action - July 21, 2023

Greetings, Prince William - Enjoy Mother Nature and help Leopold's Preserve!  They're holding a Pond Cleanup on July 29, 8:30am-11:30am and the whole family is invited!  No previous experience or tools required; they'll supply gloves, grabbers, and trash bags.  Please wear clothing you don't mind getting dirty, bring a water bottle and a smile.  You may encounter muddy areas, so please wear waterproof boots/shoes, preferably that go up past the ankle.  You'll walk the edges of the pond collecting trash and debris to prevent it from running into streams and rivers.  Please meet at the Green Bay Street cul-de-sac, at approximately 16051 Green Bay Street, Haymarket.  Carpooling is encouraged.  Please visit https://bit.ly/3pzqI8D to sign up for this family-friendly event, email info@whfarmfoundation.org for more information.

  • The hard-working staff at ACTS Hunger Prevention Center is in Urgent need of volunteers to help in their Food Donation Center and assist with Client Intake. Donation Center volunteers are needed Monday-Thursday, 9:30am-3:30pm and Friday 9am-1pm.  Client Intake volunteers are needed Monday 9am-11:30am, Tuesday 1pm - 3:30pm, Tuesday evening 5pm - 7pm and Thursday 1pm-3pm.  Bilingual skills in Spanish are helpful, but not required.  You'll feel great as you help local clients get access to healthy food to feed their families!  For more information, please email SCouteau@actspwc.org.
  • Brain Injury Services needs volunteers to be PALS (Providing a Link for Survivors) for survivors of brain injury.   • Mark your calendars! Cystic Fibrosis Foundation will be hosting the Manassas Great Strides Walk September 9 at Harris Pavilion, and volunteers are needed 8am-2pm.  Duties include set-up, registration, handing out t-shirts, clean-up, and much more.  Volunteers 18+ welcome, volunteers under 18 can help but must volunteer with a parent/guardian.  You'll feel great as you support this event which brings awareness of cystic fibrosis, a devastating disease which has robbed people of tomorrows, progressively limiting their ability to breathe and tragically shortening life.  Please visit https://on.cff.org/44w25ZO for more information, email scardenas@cff.org to learn more.
  • Join the Town of Dumfries at their "Hot Spot" Cleanup at Ginn Memorial Park, 3876 Graham Park Road in Dumfries on August 12, 9am-11am!   • You can help immigrants master the English language! English as a Second Language and Immigrant Ministries needs volunteer ESL Teachers age 18+ for their evening fall term September 11 thru November 15 at Grace United Methodist, 9750 Wellington Road, Manassas 20110.  Classes will be held on Monday & Wednesday evenings, 7pm-9pm.  Volunteers and students from all faiths and backgrounds welcome!  Background in education not required; training and all materials are provided.  You'll feel wonderful as you help students gain confidence in speaking English!  Please visit org for more information and application instructions, email mgrizzar@vt.edu to learn more.
  • Calling all techies! Fellowship Square needs volunteers age 16+ to teach technology to low-income seniors at Lake Ridge Fellowship House, 12800 Harbor Drive, Woodbridge 22192. Help make a difference in the lives of seniors by sharing your technology skills!  This program will be bi-weekly and aims to make technology accessible and help bridge the digital divide for our community's seniors.   • Fellowship Square is also looking for fun-loving volunteers age 14+ to be Bingo Callers and help their Lake Ridge Fellowship House residents enjoy a weekly game of Bingo on Tuesdays, 1pm-3:15pm.   • It may be summer, but Girls on The Run is already preparing for Fall!   • The fun staff at Northern Virginia Food Rescue is looking ahead to the school year, and they need Food Rescue Heroes!
