Greetings, Prince William - You can make a difference in the life of a child! Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) needs volunteers age 21+ who care about children growing up in a safe, permanent and loving home. The staff will hold their next Virtual Information Session on July 12, 6pm-7pm. Learn how you can help protect abused and neglected children in your community by becoming a volunteer advocate. - Animal Lovers! Advocates for Abused and Abandoned Pets (A3P) is hosting their 2nd Annual Yard Sale July 29, 6:30am-2pm at 17983 Dumfries Shopping Plaza, Dumfries 22026. They need 3 volunteers age 18+ to help set up, man tables, and tear down. Two more volunteers are needed to manage games in a children's play area. Wear comfortable clothes and shoes, snacks/lunch will be provided. - If you love admin work, CASA Virginia in Woodbridge has a wonderful opportunity for you! They're looking for a volunteer Receptionist to help with membership intake, phone calls, scheduling appointments, connecting members to services and some administrative work. Bilingual in Spanish is preferred, but not required. Volunteers must provide proof of ID and have a least 3 COVID vaccines prior to volunteering. - The wonderful staff at Historic Manassas, Inc. (HMI) have a couple of exciting volunteer opportunities! They're looking for a "people person" Front Desk Volunteer age 21+ who can help at their Visitor Center on Thursday mornings. You'll have loads of fun interacting with visitors as you answer questions about Old Town Manassas and all the fun activities that take place! HMI is also in need of SNAP Volunteers age 18+ who can help with SNAP during the Thursday and Saturday morning Farmer's Markets, 9am-1pm. Duties include helping people sign in, handing out tokens to spend at the market, counting tokens and explaining how the tokens work to recipients. Training is provided. - Lutheran Social Services of the National Capital Area needs volunteers age 18+ to assist as Translators for spoken/written languages of refugees and Asylum seekers. Volunteers must be fluent in one of the following languages: Ukrainian, Spanish, Pashto, Dari, Swahili and other languages as needed. This need can be done virtually or in-person depending on client needs. You'll feel wonderful as you help a refugee get resources and become active members of their new community! - One Community Social Services is responsible for providing over 3,000 newly arrived Afghan refugees in Northern Virginia with basic necessities such as clothing, furniture, baby & childcare goods, toiletries, and other items. They have an ongoing need for Warehouse Volunteers to help maintain their warehouse in Woodbridge with duties such as organizing and restocking. Volunteers fluent in either Dari or Pashto are a tremendous help, but it's not a requirement. All are welcome, and family-friendly! - Take a hike and help our parks! PWC Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism needs Trail Monitor Volunteers to walk a trial, or section of trail, on a weekly basis. During their walk volunteers will pick up litter and look for maintenance issues, such as damaged trees and hanging branches, standing water, trail washouts, etc. Trail Monitors will take pictures of identified issues and report their findings to the Maintenance and Operations Division. - Gardeners! Wildlife lovers! Prince William Conservation Alliance needs volunteers on Saturdays, 9am-12pm, to manage the Merrimac Farm Wildlife Management Area's wildlife garden! Your help will make it possible for all creatures great and small to find nesting sites, food, and places to rest and hide among a wealth of Virginia's native plants. - You can help feed food insecure families! SERVE has an Urgent need for Food Recovery Drivers age 21+ to support their food assistance program. Volunteers drive to area grocery stores/restaurants to pick up food donations and deliver back to the Hunger Resource Center in Manassas. Volunteers should be prepared to commit to a minimum of 6 months. Be prepared to lift boxes weighing up to 50 pounds. Training is provided along with an agency van. - St. Margaret of Cortona Transitional & Maternity Housing is seeking Childcare Volunteers age 18+ on Wednesday nights, 6pm-7pm so the mothers can attend Life Skills classes. Volunteers age 16-17 can help but must volunteer with an adult. Just an hour of your time will go a long way in helping families grow in mind, body and spirit! They also need donations of household supplies and baby/toddler supplies for the families; every gift goes directly to mothers in need. - St. Thomas UMC Food Pantry needs volunteers age 12+ to help with Food Distribution to clients on Wednesday evenings (4:30pm-7:45pm) and Saturday mornings (8:30am-12:30pm). The church is located at 8899 Sudley Road, Manassas 20110. Duties include packing food, taking food to clients' vehicles, traffic control and checking in clients. Bilingual skills in Spanish especially helpful! You'll feel great as you distribute food to vulnerable families who struggle to make ends meet in our community!
