Greetings, Prince William - October 14 is going to be a super busy day, with lots of opportunities for volunteering and getting in those service hours!
- Join Leopold's Preserve, Prince William Soil & Water Conservation District and Bull Run Mountains Conservancy for the 4th Annual Pond Cleanup October 14, 9am-12pm at Leopold's Preserve. All ages welcome! No previous experience or tools required; grabbers and trash bags will be provided. Be prepared to work outside to get dirty, bring along a water bottle, and a smile. Waterproof boots/shoes that go up past the ankle are encouraged. Volunteers will walk the edges of the pond collecting trash and debris to prevent it from running into the Broad Run. - The awesome folks at Friends of the Occoquan are holding their annual Fall River Cleanup October 14, 9am-12pm at various sites in Prince William and Fairfax County. It's family friendly and you'll feel great as you help make these places beautiful again for all to enjoy! Preregistration is recommended, please visit org to view the list of sites. - Prince William Soil and Water Conservation District is also hosting a Cleanup of Little Bull Run October 14, 9am-12pm. All ages welcome! If you have cleanup supplies such as gloves, vests, grabbers, etc., you're welcome to bring them with you. Refreshments and free t-shirts will be available! - Calling all volunteers who are able to help at Bristoe Station Battlefield Heritage Park with assembling, distributing and lighting luminaries for the evening memorial! They need volunteers, including groups, to help assemble the luminaries the first week in October. Additional volunteers will be needed to distribute the luminaries on the battlefield trails the afternoon of October 14, 2pm-5pm, and lighting them in the early evening. All ages are welcome! Bring your scouts, church group, community group, running club, stroller group, family, work friends or otherwise and come be a part of honoring national history that happened right here in Prince William County! - Enjoy a fun event and support a great cause! Keep Prince William Beautiful is holding a Fall Festival Fundraiser October 14, 11am-4pm at Cedar Run Brewery, 12801 Hazelwood Drive, Nokesville 20181. Volunteers are needed to help set up, break down, operate booths/games and maintain trash cans and grounds. Two shifts are available, 10am-1:30pm and 1:30pm-5pm. Volunteers age 16+ are welcome, volunteers age 12-15 must volunteer with a parent. Credit for service hours will be available! You'll feel great as you support this outdoor event which will help this wonderful agency purchase a much-needed company vehicle to help them continue litter programs and environmental educational/community outreach! - Join the fight to end Alzheimer's! The Virginia Tri-Counties Walk to End Alzheimer's will take place October 21 at Harris Pavilion in Manassas and volunteers age 16+ are needed for various jobs to make this a successful event! Volunteers age 10-15 are welcome to volunteer with a parent. Duties include Promise Garden, Photo Table Assistant, Route Monitors, Cheerleaders and more! - Save the Date! The Town of Dumfries is holding a Town Cleanup event to remove litter from various locations around Dumfries on October 21, 8:30am-12pm at 17757 Main Street. Volunteers age 18+ welcome, volunteers under 18 are welcome to volunteer with a parent. It's a great family-friendly event which will help beautify this historic town! - Actors & Actresses! The City of Manassas Park and the American Red Cross are calling for volunteers as they prepare for the worst! On Saturday November 4th there will be a Mock Disaster Shelter Set-Up at Manassas Park Community Center and volunteers are needed to role play displaced residents with various issues (medical, physical, mental health, etc.) seeking services at the shelter. The community center is located at 99 Adams Street, Manassas Park 20111. Volunteers age 16+ are needed, under 16 are welcome to volunteer with a parent. All types of languages are welcome! Volunteers should arrive at 8am for instruction. A light breakfast will be provided as well as lunch. Volunteers are asked to commit until 1pm.
