Greetings, Prince William:  Celebrate the 1st First Friday event of 2025!  Historic Manassas, Inc. is looking for SOUPerHero volunteers age 16+ to help support one of their most popular events of the year -SOUPer Bowl First Friday in Historic Manassas on February 7! Volunteers under 16 can also help and are welcome to volunteer with an adult over 18.  This should be loads of fun and will be a wonderful lead-up to Super Bowl LIX on February 9!  Please complete an application at https://bit.ly/3DZ6xb3.

 

·  Here's a meaningful way you can help - support our veterans by giving the gift of a lift!  Our VETS program has an ongoing need for volunteers age 21+ to provide transportation to local veterans and their spouse on weekdays to medical appointments, shopping, etc.  If you're a veteran looking to connect with fellow vets or looking to fill up your day, this is a meaningful experience.  Schedules are flexible, mileage reimbursement is provided, and you'll feel great as you provide a ride, a friendly face and help this population meet their needs!  Please visit https://bit.ly/4eWwrdB for details, email jhawkins@volunteerprincewilliam.org for more information.  This opportunity is made possible by a grant from Potomac Health Foundation.

·   The winter semester for BEACON for English Language and Literacy is currently underway!  They're still urgentlyrecruiting a few in-person and online Evening Volunteer Teachers for the Winter semester.  One-day-a-week and two-day-a-week evening options are available at various class levels.  Evening classes meet from 7pm to 9pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays in Manassas, Manassas Park, or on Zoom.  No teaching or foreign language experience is required, and training is provided.  To learn more, sign up for a virtual information session at Info session sign-up or contact Seth Mazzaro at (571) 428-2524.

·   Brain Injury Services (BIS) has an ongoing need for volunteers to be PALS (Providing a Link for Survivors) for survivors of brain injury.  This is a one-to-one friendship program for brain injury survivors; the program connects BIS clients with volunteers who can help them socialize in the community and rebuild social skills through friendship.  Once a month outings for coffee, walks, chess, lunch, etc. can help a client get their life back on track following such a traumatic occurrence!  Please visit www.braininjurysvcs.org/volunteer/ for more information, email mthyen@braininjurysvcs.org to learn how you can help.

·   Lace up your running shoes - Girls on The Run Northern Virginia is preparing for their Spring season March 3-May 19, and they need Volunteer Coaches age 16+ to coach teams in the greater Prince William community!  No experience needed; just a desire to support and encourage the next generation.  Must commit to 2-3 hours a week for the season with a few additional hours required for Coach Training and the GOTR NOVA season-ending 5K celebration.  Coaches receive all the tools and support they need and find that they get as much out of coaching as they give.  You'll feel awesome as you help young girls gain confidence in themselves and their abilities!  Please visit www.gotrnova.org/coach to learn more, email info@gotrnova.org for more information.

·   Give Blood, Save a Life!  It's time for the annual "Joe 15" Blood Drive held in memory of Joseph "Joe" Page and his brother Michael Page.  The drive will be held January 25, 9am-2:30pm at Manassas Church of the Brethren, 10047 Nokesville Road, Manassas 20110.  Your donation of blood can save up to three lives!  Please visit www.RedCrossBlood.organd enter "Joe 15 Team" to schedule an appointment.  Please email debd509@aol.comfor more information.

·  The "Power of A Knock" can help a homebound senior get nutritious meals!  Meals on Wheels urgently needs volunteers to deliver meals to homebound senior citizens on weekday mornings.  Volunteers must pass a criminal and driving record background check.  Routes take about 1.5 hours to complete, training is provided.  You'll feel great when you find out how inspiring it is to serve this vulnerable population and make their day!  Please visit www.pwcva.gov/department/area-agency-aging/volunteer for more information and forms.  Please email tsolomon@pwcgov.org or call 703.792.4583 to learn more.

·   You can help fight hunger!  The SERVE campus of Northern Virginia Family Service has an ongoing need for Food Recovery Driver volunteers age 21+to make routine pick-ups to rescue food from grocery stores and restaurants to help food insecure families.  Shifts are Monday-Friday, 8am-12pm; their greatest need is for Monday drivers.  Volunteers are asked to commit to at least one shift per week for at least six months or longer.  Volunteers must have a valid driver's license and should be prepared to lift up to 50lbs.  Ride along training with experienced volunteers or staff and vehicle provided.  Just one day a week can make a life-long impact on a family in need!  Please email ncannon@nvfs.org to learn more.  PS - SERVE also has a need for the following volunteers:  Campus Handy-Person, Shelter Tutor's Assistant and Shelter Kitchen Assistant.  For these opportunities, please visit www.nvfs.org/get-involved/volunteer/ for more information, contact Vicky at vbonilla@nvfs.org or call 571.748.2716.

·  Your office, group or club can provide the comfort of a hot meal during the winter months!  Streetlight Community Outreach Ministries' hypothermia shelter located at 14716 Potomac Mills Road in Woodbridge has an ongoing need for groups to prepare and drop off meals for 30 adult residents through March 30, 2025.  Meals are needed each night and should be prepared off-site and dropped off at the shelter between 6:30pm-7pm.  There are still a number of openings in January and February, and you'll feel great providing a hot, nourishing meal for the homeless to enjoy!  Please visit https://bit.ly/3XXR5SR to sign up and get more information, email thermalshelter@thestreetlight.org or call 571.677.2883 to learn more.
