Who We Are

Founder Kira Clark’s service dog’s name is Koda.  His name is befitting a service dog.  In Indian Sioux language Koda means; friend, ally, companion.  These qualities are exactly what a service dog is to their handler.  While a service dog assists their handler with daily needs and tasks, at the core of a service dog partnership is the bond.  A Soldier who scans every room upon entering to assess threats now feels safe and trusts that his service dog will not lead him into danger.  A Marine who won’t leave the house will step outside the door to take her service dog out for bathroom breaks and walks because of the love between them.  An Airman who fights falling asleep feels secure that his service dog loves him and will be right there to bring him back from a night terror.

Many Veterans are going through a long and winding road to be partnered with service dogs. There are long waitlists, not enough dogs and many unscrupulous organizations only “claiming” to train service dogs.  Can you imagine what it does to a Veteran to start to feel secure at the thought of being partnered with a service dog only to be paired with a trained pet incapable of providing the assistance needed?  There is a detrimental lack of information available to Veterans in need of service dogs and K9s Serving Vets was founded to arm Veterans in search of service dogs with information, guidance and support.

What We Do

We act as the liaison between the Department of Veterans Affairs, those who have served and service dog organizations using education and assistance to bring Veterans and service dogs together.

We are focused on the journey of Veterans to find their service dogs and we act as a road map to help them navigate the process.  We provide them with the requirements of the Department of Veterans Affairs to ensure they receive the additional benefits for Veteran service dog handlers, we help them find the right training organization for their needs, assist with fundraising for the $40,000-$60,000 cost of a service dog and help them transition into their new life as a Veteran service dog handler. We have been called the "match.com" of the Veteran service dog community.
